Ottawa, 5 February 2012 – Yesterday, Peter Penashue, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada, and Member of Parliament for Labrador, delivered the closing remarks at the 2012 Northern Lights conference in Ottawa.

The Northern Lights conference brings together leading businesspeople, artists and others to highlight the many new developments and opportunities in Canada’s North, from Nunavut to Labrador.  Minister Penashue highlighted the important role that Labrador plays in Canada’s North, and the many economic opportunities that await businesses there.

“It is only by helping to increase the quality of life for our Northern citizens with improved housing, infrastructure, jobs and economic prospects that we will build strong and lasting Northern communities, communities that truly represent the central role that our Arctic plays in our national history and identity”, said Minister Penashue.
